TAAC - East, in full partnership with the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and joint, interagency, intergovernmental, and multinational organizations, conducts functionally-based security force assistance through Train-Advise-Assist in order to enable a credible, capable, increasingly sustainable Afghan National Security Forces that are capable of preventing terrorist safe havens in eastern Afghanistan.
TAAC - East includes the provinces of Bamyan, Ghazni, Kapisa, Khost, Kunar, Laghman, Logar, Nangarhar, Nuristan, Paktika, Paktiya, Panjshayr, Parwan and Wardak. It covers 46,000 square miles, approximately the size of Virginia, and shares a portion of the border with Pakistan. Currently, there are approximately 1,500 Coalition Forces and 82,000 ANSF are operating in the command’s area of responsibility.
• 3rd Infantry Division – 3rd ID represents the headquarters of TAAC-E in synchronizing and coordinating advising and security efforts for U.S. coalition forces in eastern Afghanistan.
• 3d Cavalry Regiment – 3d CR advises and assists ANSF in eastern Afghanistan to improve the systems and processes at the Corps-level and above. This will allow the security forces to create an enduring security environment and become sustainable for the long term.
• 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade – The 82nd CAB provides multi-functional aviation support to TAAC-E in support of Operation Enduring Freedom to facilitate unified land operations intended to secure the population, neutralize the insurgency and increase ANSF capabilities.
