Mission

TAAC - East, in full partnership with the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and joint, interagency, intergovernmental, and multinational organizations, conducts functionally-based security force assistance through Train-Advise-Assist in order to enable a credible, capable, increasingly sustainable Afghan National Defense and Security Forces that are capable of preventing terrorist safe havens in eastern Afghanistan.


Area of Responsibility

TAAC-East includes the provinces of Kapisa, Kunar, Laghman, Nangarhar, Nuristan, Panjshayr, and Parwan. TAAC-East shares a portion of the border with Pakistan. Currently, there are approximately 1,000 Coalition Forces and 40,000 ANDSF are operating in the command’s area of responsibility.

Major Units Assigned

3rd Infantry Division – 3rd ID represents the headquarters of TAAC-E in synchronizing and coordinating advising and security efforts for U.S. coalition forces in eastern Afghanistan.

• 3rd Brigade Combat Team “Rakkasans,” 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) – 3rd Brigade advises and assists ANDSF in eastern Afghanistan to improve the systems and processes at the Corps-level and above. This will allow the security forces to create an enduring security environment and become sustainable for the long term.

• Task Force Eagle Assault, 101st Combat Aviation Brigade Task Force Eagle Assault provides multi-functional aviation support to TAAC-East in support of NATO’s Resolute Support Mission and Operation Freedom’s Sentinel.
